The Opportunity
ATMI had a unique challenge that called for game changing packaging technology – a package that could safely transport and fully dispense extremely expensive, sensitive chemicals without introducing air. The current package design was glass; a risky material choice for this particular product.
The Innovation
PTI developed an extremely complicated dispensing package, a unique bottle-in-bottle dispensing package. In addition, to produce the package, PTI invented a new manufacturing process and facilitated the development of specialized equipment to produce the bottle-in-bottle packaging.
The Outcome
The choice to use plastic instead of glass preserved the highly valuable product in the instance that it was dropped. The resulting design also eliminated air bubbles during the dispensing process, improving the ability to dispense 99% of the product – which provided significant savings in left over product compared to the glass packaging.
